What is yoga?

The origins of yoga

Yoga, a new trend? Not really. Although it has exploded in recent decades in the West (thanks, among others, to the Beatles), this practice is not new... Far from it! Yoga has its origins in India, several thousand years ago. From the first founding writings to its current practice throughout the world, yoga has largely evolved and modernized. But the objective remains the same: unite body and mind to promote well-being.

To each their own yoga

In reality, there is not one but several types of yoga which meet different objectives. Exercise, relax, escape or all three at the same time. Among the most practiced, we find:

The Hatha : so-called traditional yoga bringing together physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation;

Vinyasa : dynamic yoga choreographed and based on body alignment. Perfect for athletes, especially yoga man. ;

Ashtanga : energetic yoga with a rapid sequence of positions;

The Yin : yoga aimed at relaxing physically and mentally by holding poses over time;

Bikram or hot yoga : very intense yoga practiced in a room heated to 30°, even 40° (hence its name).

Ok, but how to choose? The main thing is to opt for a yoga adapted to your expectations, your desires and your level, starting with a beginner's yoga class.

The (many) benefits of yoga
