The floor bar

There ground bar, also known as ground bar, is a discipline created in the 1940s by Boris Kniaseff, dancer and ballet master.

When he opens his own dance school in Switzerland, he learns that his building turns out to be a monument. This therefore implies thathe cannot attach the famous bars to the walls to train his students.

Not being able to practice training using bars, it was in this situation that he came up with the idea of transfer the exercises to the floor and without using the bars.

The name “barre” was still retained because the exercises are inspired by warm-ups for classical dance dancers. The goal is therefore to chain together several exercises and positions inspired by dance classes.

Not using the bar makes the exercises more intense and allows you to work deep into the muscles while focusing on the balance

Exercises

THE floor bar exercises are mainly carried out lying, sitting or face down. They all have an inspiration from classical dance, which is not the case with Pilates.

In addition to doing the exercises, you therefore add a certain grace from classical dance. So you will work on your head carriage, THE tiptoes and the port de bras !

The course of the sessions

Barre classes are more like classical dance stretches. THE vocabulary is therefore not the same as during a Pilates session. You may also not work on the same style of music depending on a course you have chosen.
